Banyak Kerbau di D'Ox Ville Hotel

PADANG - Tidak seperti kebanyakan hotel lainnya di Kota Padang, yang satu ini terbilang unik. Bukan saja karena letaknya yang berdempetan dengan perkampungan, namun ornamen dan pernak - perniknya yang serba 'kerbau' menjadi khas hotel ini.

Tak salah jika Hotel yang terletak di Jalan Kampung Sabalah No, 26/28 Kelurahan Pondok, kawasan barat Kota Padang itu diberi nama oleh pemiliknya, D'Ox Ville Hotel.

Menurut Rudolf Smit, General Manager (GM) D'Ox Hotel, Ox berarti kerbau sedangkan ville dari bahasa Perancis berarti rumah atau bisa berarti suatu tempat tinggal. "Akan tetapi pengambilan nama tersebut masih dikaitkan dengan budaya lokal, Minangkabau," ujar pria yang dikenal sebagai punggawa pariwisata itu.

Rudolf menunjukkan banyak perihal hotel  minimalis yang memilki 29 kamar itu kepada padangmedia.com, saat bertandang ke hotel itu siang kemarin (Selasa, 21/1).

"Anda bisa lihat, hampir di setiap sudut ada kerbau. Mulai dari sudut pelataran parkir sampai lobby, di sudut - sudut ruangan dan di bawah tangga,"kata Rudolf.

Bahkan, di halaman hotel ada patung pedati yang ditarik oleh kerbau. Ini akan mewakili imajinasi pengunjung ke suasana Minangkabau di masa silam. Dimana pedati yang ditarik kerbau adalah primadona transportasi masa 'saisuk' di daerah Sumatera Barat.

Selain pernak - pernik berbentuk kerbau, kata Rudolf, pemilik hotel ini juga memiliki selera estetika yang eksotik dan cenderung klasik. Ia menggunakan berbagai rempah sebagai bagian dari estetika itu. Misalnya, cengkeh, kulit manis, biji pala, merica dan ketumbar dapat ditemui di bagian - bagian tertentu dari hotel ini. Kehadiran rempah - rempah ini tak terlepas dari alasan pemilik yang merupakan saudagar rempah - rempah turun - temurun di "Induak Koto" Sumatera Barat ini.

Lebih lanjut Rudolf mengatakan, D'Ox Ville ini meskipun tampak depan terkesan mungil namun ia memiliki fasilitas dan standar pelayanan bintang tiga. "Di sini ada dua suite room dan dua ballroom yang dapat digunakan untuk company meeting,"sebutnya.

Tak ketinggalan juga ada kolam renang yang diapit dua bangunan utama. Dekorasi berbeda di sekitar kolam renang sekilas tertangkap. "Suasananya ada yang bilang mirip Las Vegas. Mungkin karena ada sederet pohon palm dan patung mirip bonggol tanaman gurun dan tanaman geranium di tengah taman. Apalagi bila malam dengan cahaya lampu yang gemerlap, lebih menakjubkan," ujarnya.

Pantas hotel D'Ox Ville saat ini tak sepi penghuni. Apalagi ditangani seorang Rudolf Smit yang dikenal puluhan tahun malang melintang dalam dunia pariwisata di tanah air.(der)

Why Ox Ville?

I came to know about this hotel only around October 2013. After invitations from the Owner and its Sales Manager, Wulansari, I decided to accept them and visited the place. My first reaction was WOW. This little accommodation must be the best kept secret of the tourism industry of West Sumatra. Why didn't I hear about it earlier? I have been looking for a hotel in the Capital of West Sumatra where I can relax, feel at home, enjoy its more than enough facilities. and still be within striking distance from the commercial district and conference centers.

What makes this cozy and homey hotel so intriguing was its very unique interior which reflects the classy and colorful taste of its owners. Unlike many hotels within West Sumatra d'Ox Ville can be characterized as traditional but modern, The name Ox Ville is expressed through the presence of many ox figurines all over the place. For those of you new to the cultural history of West Sumatra, the ox or in the local Minangkabau language "kabau" (kerbau in Indonesian) is a symbol of the birth of the largest ethnic group in the province. It was through an oxen duel that the locals retained its independence from the invading Javanese Hindu King Adityawarman. To avert bloodshed in an open warfare the leaders of the local army suggested each side chose an ox to fight. If the local ox wins then the invaders will not continue with their occupation. Ingeniously the locals chose a very hungry baby ox, with its small horns fitted with very sharp knives. The Invading army chose a very big ox to do the duel. Obviously, the baby ox saw the big ox and considered it as its parent and went under the big one in order to drink its milk. The movements of the baby ox's head trying to suckle brought its horned-knives ripping the belly of the big one. Slowly but surely the big ox collapsed for loss of blood. The victory, which in the native language means Minang (Menang in Indonesian), became part of the new name of the natives. Minang, victory, and Kabau, Ox. From then on, the natives are called Minangkabau. West Sumatra is one of Indonesia's provinces but most people call it The Land of the Minangkabaus, Ranah Minang.

My fascination with the Minangkabau culture and crafts plus the modern interpretation of the owners of this accommodation have made me fall in love with d'Ox Ville Hotel.
